A telecommunications company specializing in fiber and optical electronics is seeking a Field Installation & Support Technician to join their team in San Jose, CA.
Summary: Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of network infrastructure and vehicle communication systems
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Network Equipment Installation:
• Install and configure network equipment such as routers, switches, access points, and servers at various client sites.
• Ensure that network installations adhere to industry best practices and client-specific requirements. - Vehicle Antenna Cable Installations:
• Install and maintain vehicle-mounted antennas, cables, and associated communication equipment in various types of vehicles, including buses, trains, and service vehicles.
• Ensure that antenna installations are secure, durable, and optimized for signal reception and transmission. - Technical Troubleshooting:
• Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, equipment failures, and signal interference problems.
• Utilize testing equipment and software to identify and rectify issues promptly. - Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of all installations, configurations, and maintenance activities.
• Generate detailed reports on equipment status, work performed, and recommendations for improvements. - Field Support:
• Provide on-site support to clients, addressing technical concerns, answering questions, and providing guidance on equipment usage.
• Collaborate with team members and clients to ensure smooth project execution. - Compliance and Safety:
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during installations, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others.
• Complete trainings and certifications required to work at customer sites including bus and train maintenance yards - Training:
• Stay updated on the latest technologies and equipment relevant to network infrastructure and vehicle antenna cable installations.
• Provide training to clients or team members as needed. - Inventory Management:
• Maintain an inventory of network equipment, cables, and accessories.
• Ensure that necessary components are available for installations and replacements.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or a degree in a related field is a plus.
- Experience in physical equipment installation and configuration.
- Familiarity with vehicle antenna cable installations and vehicle communication systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various job sites.
- Physical fitness and the ability to lift and carry equipment as required.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and best practices.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Routine walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting, sitting, standing, reaching, and twisting
- Must frequently lift/lower/carry/push/pull 1 to 55 pounds, occasionally lift/lower/carry/push/pull 56 to 100 pounds
- Position requires routine pushing, pulling, grasping and manual dexterity in the use of hands, arms and shoulders
- Frequent travel to customer sites (daily) and occasional use of power tools
